A Christmas Carol in KLPAC

Last Saturday I decided to be a good boy…nolar I’m always a good boy..and went with my dad to KLPAC to watch “a christmas carol”. The company my dad works in bought up all the tickets and offered them to their staff. It was really nice of them and there was a buffet dinner included as well. This is where I have a problem with Malaysians though…buffets! haha Whenever there is free food involved people will cut queues and stuff their plates and push..man..but something my dad said really hit me hard..maybe some of them can’t really afford good food and this is one of the rare opportunities that they get to eat these kind of food. So yeah..that really puts some perspective into things..I say this not because I’m looking down on them in anyway but only because I think many of us are blessed in so many ways and yet complain about everything.

The play was good! It was an adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. I thought it was a tad bit slow at first but it got  interesting towards the middle…the actors and actresses were really good and it was nice because it was quite a small place…some of them still had their Malaysian accents though (which I totally do not blame them for) haha all in all I had a great time and so did my dad I think..haha..

Integricity’s Christmas Dinner

Last tuesday was Integricity’s annual Christmas Dinner and it was at sevenatenine.  We got there an hour late because we were stuck in the jam for an hour and a half. I think I took the worst possible way there. The federal highway was almost at a standstill and Jalan Hang Tuah approaching Sungai Wang was even worse.  Oh well! Apart from that, the place was really nice…the food was decent..I had the beef which I though was pretty good. Lyd has the lamb shank which was decent lar..but the fries was uhh..quite bad..haha..normally i’m quite chin chai lar when it comes to potatoes..but this was really bad…haha…desert….oh wow! the cheesecake was super strange…according to Jes’s friend and I do agree with him 100% ….it tasted like tofu. The apple and pumpkin pie was decentlar…We revealed who our guardian angels and mortals were..we exchanged gifts…I got a bottle of Dove bodywash after Dirty Santa took my presents away..Hahaha..overall a really fun night!

We had carolling yesterday and oh boy..I really think I’m getting too old for this..I think I slept in the bus on the way to EVERY house…haha..i was just smashed lar…but we went to a house which was really really nice..to me perhaps the nicest house I’ve ever been to…a simple design but the living room and kitchen overlooks KL tower and the city…has 4 stories…and 4 maids…..a white yamaha grand piano and 2 really cute dogs! haha The family was really nice too…

Dec 20 2008

The beginning of a long and expensive journey..oh boy..

I did it! After some considerable deliberation..I pulled the trigger and got a line 6 toneport ux2 and a pair of Wharfedale studio monitors…this things are super awesome and I can’t wait to do some recording and watch some movies with this! The only problem is…they are huge! I’m gonna need speaker stands or a new table! Hahaha…Will post pictures of it soon!

Update (22nd Dec)

Have been using it for the past two days and its crazy..The sound clarity is super! (compared to the creative/altec lansing stuff I was using previously)…while playing Dota(Lyd if you are reading this I only uhh played one game…:P) I could hear all the subtle nuances that I’ve never heard before…Music sounds great as expected…

Playing guitar through the Toneport ux2 and the Wharfedale’s was a whole new experience for me. It is slightly harder to get a good sound without tweaking but once dialed in it can sound really good as well. I would agree that it does not have the headroom of a normal amp..but thats something 90% of the people listening would not even know about anyway…I tried recording something random without tweaking the sound at all and was quite amazed by the outcome….not the playing but the recording…

Here it is- I did this in like 3 minutes….so its really easy to use..

For those who were abit lost throughout this post-

1. I bought this set as a replacement for my guitar amp and computer speakers coz it works as both. It also allows me to start recording some music which I’ve always wanted to do.

2. The studio monitors are basically powered speakers. They are huge and of course sound alot better then the regular computer speakers. The ones I bought were the Wharfedale 8.1 Diamond. In the studio monitors world, I think this is a Proton..or a Toyota at best..haha ..rm1050 a pair now in Ck Music..its on sale so its really a worthwhile buy

3. The Line 6 Toneport UX2 is a recording interface…u plug it in the computer through USB..install the drivers and a software called gearbox…In control panel you select the default sound device to be the Toneport UX2…plug in the guitar/bass/vocal mic/keyboards- turn on the gearbox software and it turns your computer into a virtual studio so to speak…really really great stuff….the gearbox software digitally emulates the sound of great amps and thats how they get it to sound really nice..

Hope that answers the question that everyone has been asking me- “What are you gonna do with that?”

P/s- To those who love me, I know I know..recession! Haha I’m selling off a lot of my stuff actually..

YLDP 08!

Hey everyone,

I know I haven’t posted in a while. Sorrylar, life has really been beating the crap out of me hahaha…but God is good of course! I’ll take this post to talk about YLDP…

Ever since Youthquake 3 years ago, December is really a time I look forward to because of YLDP and YQ. Like I told Grace, to some of us its the highlight of our year! Coming from a Methodist church (something alot of us can identify with I’m sure) its really refreshing to go to a camp where everyone is just so pumped and so ready to worship, to hear the word and just to meet with Him. I love this group of helpers as well! Like someone else said, we compliment each other very well…for example some of us are extremely organized while some of us are uhhh…not so organized…hahaha but yeah…the chemistry within the group is awesome and I really thank God for bringing us together!

I won’t go into detail here because it really was a long long camp…but I love how God reminded us that it really is all about Him…to those who weren’t there…the electricity went out in the evening on the first night and that was quite a blow for us because we had a video planned and stuff…we went acoustic though and it was really an awesome time of worship….on the 2nd day, the electricity kept cutting off and when they finally solved the problem in the evening it started raining really heavily…everyone got wet and it was really quite discouraging (to get to the canteen for dinner some cars had to ferry the campers across the campsite, the bridge and some tents were flooded)….what kept coming to me though was the story of the crippled man who had to be lowered to get to Jesus and the bleeding woman who pushed through the crowd to touch Jesus’s robe….the sense of desperation to worship Him no matter what the circumstance…..to me, that was one of the nights where I just surrendered it all to Him…and it was amazing…..i cannot begin to describe the experience but all praise, honor and glory to Him and Him alone!

Will blog more about YLDP later!

The worship team minus Len and Tim!
